Road Generator

warning

This chapter has a decisive impact on mapping quality and efficiency. Please read it carefully and practice more. Do not skip this chapter!

All roads, rails, wooden boards and tubes in Ballex are made with road generators.

Create a Road Generator

Create → Road Generator

In the Start section, only common usages and frequently used parameters are introduced. The most crucial parameters are:

  • Generator Type
  • Length
  • End Height
  • Segments
  • Bend
  • Offsets
    Steel Rail
tip

The Start section won't cover roads with a Custom Shape.

Straight Road

  • Choose Stone Road as Generator Type
  • Set its Length
  • When making concave roads, set Concave (0.1 recommended)
  • When making wide roads, set Width (3 recommended)
  • When making sloped roads, set End Height and check Precise UV Length
  • When making adapters between different road types, uncheck Link End Value and adjust the parameters of the head and the end respectively
tip

Length means the length projected onto the horizontal plane, and is an independent parameter from End Height.

If both ends are blocked by other objects, you can uncheck Create Cap to improve performance.

Straight Wooden Board

  • Choose Wooden Board as Generator Type
  • Set its Length
  • When making wide wooden boards, set Width (2 recommended)
  • When making sloped wooden boards, set End Height and check Precise UV Length

Straight Rail

  • Choose Steel Rail as Generator Type
  • Set its Length
  • To change the gauge of the double rails, set Offsets (not recommended)
  • To make a single rail, set the number of Offsets to 1 and its value to (0, 0)
  • To make sloped rails, rotate the rail and append matching arc rails

Straight Tube

  • Choose Tube as Generator Type
  • Set its Length
  • To enlarge the outer diameter of the tube, set Radius (0.75 recommended)
  • To change the central angle of the cross section, set Slice Start Angle and Slice End Angle (0 180 recommended)

Arc

  • Calculate the corresponding Length according to the desired radius and central angle
  • Set Bend Y to the angle between the end direction and the start direction, in degrees, with right turn as positive and left turn as negative
  • Set an appropriate number of Segments according to the above angle (yaw / 7.5 rounded up recommended)

Helix

  • Set End Height to the height difference between the end and the head
  • Others same as arc

Roller

  • Set Bend X to the angle between the end direction and the start direction, in degrees, with pressing down as positive and lifting up as negative
  • Others same as arc

Twist

  • Set Bend Z to the angle between the end direction and the start direction, in degrees, with counterclockwise twist as positive and clockwise as negative
  • Others same as arc
warning

To avoid weird results:

  • Don't set End Height and Bend X at the same time
  • Don't set Bend X and Bend Y at the same time

Corner

  • Choose Corner as Generator Type
  • Set the corresponding Size according to the road width
  • Click to modify the textures and styles of the edges and corners
